"You Become....Gone."-Joe Rogan Last weekend I had the chance to climb inside a dark tank, naked, full of 10 inches of warm water and 2,000 lbs of Epson salt. I closed the lid, cutting off all sights and sounds....and floated around for an hour. This is the ultimate meditation experience. The 2000 lbs of Epson salts make the water extremely buoyant allowing anyone, at any weight, to float effortlessly. It is essentially a bathtub with a lid. Originally called a Sensory Deprivation Tank, used for experimenting the brain when all stimuli are removed, the float tank is now used for relaxation, meditation and alternative therapies. Because you are floating with ease - and the air and water are the same temperature as your body, there is no pressure anywhere. And as Joe Rogan puts it, you become...gone. Will you freak out? No. There are two big buttons right next to your hand, one to open the tank and one for the light. If for some unknown reason you forgot how to push a button, you could stand up and open the tank with your hands. So after 5 minutes of wondering why you are floating in a dark tank naked - your mind and body relax. Your mind begins to wander and starts to annoy you but eventually it stops bugging you...and soon enough, you fade away. Everything fades away, effortlessly. These tanks are being used for veterans and treating PTSD and other stress disorders. You feel very safe inside of the float tank and, from what I can remember, it is very similar to being in the womb. As weirded out as I was at first, you soon come to realize that an hour is not enough time to be in this tank. These tanks are popping up all over America and soon floating will be as common as getting a massage. Here is a video of Joe Rorgan, the inspiration for our float experience, explaining his mind-melt in the float tank. DO IT!If you want to feel amazing.
