Lucille Ball never felt more relatable when I watched the iconic scene of the I Love Lucy show where she devours the chocolate off of the conveyor belt with her best friend. And I plan to have a similar moment when my grandmother makes her christmas peanut butter cookies with the hershy kiss on top. I watched the Lucy show on Nick at Night growing up and never quite realized the impact she would have on me. Even as a 6 year old I remember the feeling of when she left this world and she will forever be my favorite female comic.
As an entertainer and businesswoman, Ball continuously broke barriers for women in entertainment business. She had the first television series to show an interracial couple. It also was the first to feature a pregnant woman playing a pregnant woman, but could not use the word “pregnant” on telecasts as it was against the regulations to talk about a woman in a "delacate" state. She was one of the first leading ladies to ease the world into change through comedy.
This paper collage is 12x12 framed in a white float frame with black interior accent to give Lucy a pop. The paper used to make her hair contains gold leaf and each eyelash was painstakingly fitted to perfection. To the person who brings her home, I hope she brings you inspiration and reminds you to always break the rules a little while remaining absolutely fabulous!
