Frida is one of the most fascinating painters of the last century. She became a painter after a horrible bus accident when she was in a body cast in her bed. She put a mirror above her bed and painted self portraits to keep her mind busy, expressing her joys and pains. She began a love affair with famous artist Diego Rivera and surpassed him in fame through the years, although both of their faces are on the 500 peso bill. Because of her political beliefs she wasn't allowed to exhibit her work in her own country until later in life. During this important exhibit, her doctor had ordered her to stay in bed and miss the exhibition. She followed the doctors orders creatively and had her bed moved to the exhibition with her in it, never leaving.
Frida Kahlo is a symbol of hope, of power, of empowerment, for a variety of sectors of our population who are undergoing adverse conditions.
She is a 12x12 collage framed in a white wooden frame.
