The Gorilla
Koko was a famous gorilla who could speak sign language. She showed humanity that love, compassion, empathy, joy and grief transcend species.
Koko asked for a kitten and was given one for Christmas. She loved her kitten and treated him like her own baby. When the kitten was hit by a car Koko kept signing the words “sad, frown, cry, bad” and cried out with a hooting sound she made as a baby throughout the night.
Robin Williams went to meet Koko and they had such a good time playing together that she forever called him her best friend. She was so inventive that she made up new words. She used the phrase “eye hat” for “mask”, “finger bracelet” for “ring” and “elephant baby” for “Pinocchio” (because of the long nose). Her IQ is said to have been between 75 and 90. Koko's last words were "I am Gorilla...I am flowers."
Gorillas are highly emotional beings. They share 98% DNA with humans and are Vegetarians. There cultural symbolism includes strength, intelligence, communication, dignity, tranquility, gentleness, and family.
